Connecting Past Experiences with New Paintings
Maybe this photo makes sense b/c Mercury will be headed back into retrograde soon. Seems like the current theme is that many decisions are arising & people keep telling me that they don't know what to do at presented crossroads. Well, like @cirossy says, don't make any harsh decisions during #MercuryRetrograde. Allow yourself to sit in it - even if it's a heavy tornado stirring up dust that you thought you'd cleaned up... it's fine not to have the answers over night. I sure don't. If you're struggling, join us for our #NewMoon circle on Thur night (3/7: link in bio) to get you thru the storm.
This photo is really about the painting in the background +my relationship w/it. The detail here is from a painting entitled 'Catalunya' that I made last fall. Maybe this relationship is similar to the 'dust kicked up' scenario of retrograde... b/c that's how I feel about politics around #CatalanIndependence...
For #fridayintroductions, I am sharing about my relationship with Catalunya. I lecture about 4x a year as a guest Art & Architecture Expert for @smithsonian in Portugal, Spain & Italy. Besides absolutely loving every second of it, I mainly do it to keep one foot in academia as an #arthistorian + another in the countries in which I've lived (that way it doesn't feel as if I ever really left). .
Barcelona is the city where I completed my MA & my second home. I'm getting ready to go overseas again. As I review my lectures on the History of Catalunya, I begin to get a bit sentimental about the political drama that escalated late 2017. -
This painting was an outlet for me to process some of the emotional trauma I experienced witnessing the Spanish military march into the city when people were voting for their independence. The depression I experienced & still feel when the topic arises. My idol #AntoniTapies speaks much about the richness of Catalan culture & my connection to him also inspired the pain in this painting. Swipe right to see the full piece. What do you feel when you look at this? -
If you wana know more about the situation in Catalunya OR specifics about the story behind this painting, there is a link in my bio to a blog post. 📸 @leahbeilhart
